Balloon Fiesta, NM in October

Albuquerque International Balloon Festival

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta – October

Every year when October rolls around, like most folks, I think of pumpkin spice, changing leaves, and cooler weather. But unlike others, I also think of hot air balloons. Why? Because that is when the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival occurs and it is spectacular. There are four different types of RV sites but I highly recommend the premier site on a bluff overlooking the Launch Field. The bluff provides premier viewing for the early morning launches (picture lawn chair, blankets, and hot coffee) and evening glow balloons (picture lawn chair, blankets, and hot cocoa). And since you are in New Mexico, be sure to go to El Pinto restaurant. El Pinto has several beautiful outdoor patios and the air is filled with the aroma of roasting hatch chiles done with on the patio. Many dignitaries and entertainers have eaten there too and it’s fun to see their pictures lining the hallways, such as President George W Bush, Hillary Clinton, and others. It’s a tad pricey and the food is just OK, but the ambiance is quite lovely. Here are pictures from our 2012 trip and I hope you make this a destination in your travels, at least once.
